News Drama

Sometimes it feels as if the whole world is falling apart.  So, how do we keep all that from overwhelming us?

I recommend we limit how much news we watch.  The 24 hour news venues constantly push a fearful narrative. They have to fill every minute of air time with drama, conflict, and crisis, in order to keep people tuned in to them and not go somewhere else. If there’s not a big news event, they’ll take something stupid a politician said and make that the major news story until there is real news.  Their goal is to present a problem, a crisis, or some kind of spectacle.  My suggestion is that we limit the intake of that harmful stuff, or we are going to be in a constant state of either despair or anger.

Watching less news doesn’t keep the bad from happening, and it certainly doesn’t stop the news from reporting it, but it does control the amount of ugly emotions we feel about it.

Take Away: Watching less news doesn’t keep the bad from happening, and it certainly doesn’t stop the news from reporting it, but it does control the amount of ugly emotions we feel about it.
