A Happier Teenager

As they get older, teenagers should have more freedoms and fewer limits.  However, there should always be some.  The truth is they crave it because it gives them a sense of security.
But just as important as it is to set limits, it’s absolutely crucial that parents find more ways to say yes to their teen than to say no.  A good rule of thumb would be to provide one opportunity for each time you say no.
For example, every time you say no to their requests for more stuff, provide your teenager an opportunity to spend time with you or experiences where they can grow.  In other words, give them the gift of your time and life experiences where they can make memories or learn new skills.  They probably don’t need more stuff but they can always use more of your time.  Say yes to those things as much as you have to say no to the other things and you’ll have a happier teenager.

Take Away:  Just as important as it is to set limits, it’s absolutely crucial that parents find more ways to say yes to their teen than to say no.
